FAREWELL TO TEACHER

MISS S. PAPPS TRANSFERRED. There was a large gathering of pupils and teachers of the Westown school, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon to farewell Miss S. Papps, who has been appointed to the Upper Mangorei school. Miss Papps was later entertained at afternoon tea by members of the school staff, other guests being Mr. V. C. Davies, representing the school committee, Mr. W. A. Brown, a former headmaster of the school, and Mrs. Brown. Reference to Miss Papps’ sterling qualities as a teacher were made by Mr. A. V. Gilbert, acting-headmaster. She had been eight years in the lower division

of the school, he said. She was presented with a bedroom clock. Appreciation of Miss Papps’ work in the school was expressed on behalf of the committee by Mr. Davies. Mr. Brown made reference to the fine training Miss Papps had given the younger children, training which was reflected in the successful results attained in the upper division.
