REDUCTIONS WRONGLY MADE

PENSIONS POSITION VALIDATED.

CLAUSE PLACED IN FINANCE ACT.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Wellington, Dec. 18.

The Controller and Auditor-General in a recent report called attention to the fact that reductions in old-age, widows’, miners’ and South African war pensions under the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, 1932, had been erroneously made as from April 1 that year, though the reduction could not legally come into force until May 10. Clause 28 of the Finance Act (No. 2) validates the prior reduction by declaring that the section in question be deemed to have come into operation on April 1.
