Mr. H. Voorzanger, London, who has been staying at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth, for the last few days, left for Auckland last night. The New Plymouth Amateur Athletic Club last night passed a vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr.. J. Bennett, who was one of the club’s honorary timekeepers. Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, is at present an inmate of a private hospital at New Plymouth, where he underwent an operation yesterday. The Rev. Father J. Henley, who for four years has been attached to St. Joseph’s parish, New Plymouth, will leave to-day for Dimedin. Opportunity was taken by the Mayor (Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour) and other speakers at the farewell last night to welcome Father Foley, who succeeds Father Henley.
Crs. J. Brown, T. P. Anderson and P. E. Stainton were last night appointed the representatives of the New Plymouth Borough Council on the New Plymouth Airport Board. A special meeting of the New Plymouth Aero Club is to be held to-night to elect its representatives to the board. The Government nominee will be appointed by the Controller of Civil Aviation (Major T. M. Wilkes). The Rev. R. J. Howie, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, announced to the kirk session at the close of the morning service on Sunday that he had received cabled advice from the Melbourne congregation of Malvern sending him an enthusiastic and unanimous call, states a Press Association message. In the absence of detailed information he could not say at present what his attitude would be, but he confessed that the call made a great appeal to him. He had not sought it or made any overtures.
