AVIATION ACTIVITIES

WESTERN FEDERATION MEETS.' MATTERS OF ADMINISTRATION. The question of the various crashes in which the club’s planes have been involved in recent months will, it was decided at yesterday’s meeting at Hawera of the Western Federated Flying Club, be left in the hands of the executive committee consisting of the presidents of the three clubs, with the addition, of Captain Gibbons, to report. The question entails considering voluminous correspondence, and it was felt that decision could be arrived at much more quickly by the committee. In the meantime, the pupils concerned in the crashes are to be allowed to continue flying. Mr. A. F. Sandford, president of the New Plymouth Aero Club, presided at the meeting, those present being Messrs J., R. Franklin (Wanganui), Dr. W. F. Buist (Hawera), W. G. Walkley (secretary to the Hawera Club), H. R. Kemp (Hawera), C. Hannan (New Plymouth), Captain S. Gibbons (Wanganui), FlyingOfficer lan Keith and Mr. S. E. Nielson (New Plymouth), secretary. Messrs Nielson and Walkley are to collaborate on the question of insurance on the club’s planes.

It was recommended to the sub-com-mittee that following recent accidents a rule be incorporated allowing no machine to. be cranked unless, the pilot is in the cockpit. , It was stated that offenders flying low over New Plymouth and Hawera had been reprimanded by their respective clubs. The offences were not likely to recur.

The application of the Stratford Aero Clubfor "affiliation as an associate member was approved, subject; before training ■ operations are commenced, to the club having a full financial membership. It i was-, decided that full rates be charged for machines taking part in pageants outside the federated area. For the repairing of ZK—ACH a qualified ground engineer is to be appointed, to work, under the supervision of Mr. A. Salter. ZK—ACH has been put of use since a crash some timq ago, the recent burning of ZK—AAX having necessitated its use.
