FROZEN MEAT STEADY

RISE IN MUTTON CONTINUES. LAMB SECTION UNCHANGED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, Dec. 16. Following are the latest quotations at pence per lb. for frozen and chilled meat, with those for the previous week in comparison:—

They are compiled by the quotations committee, Smithfield. For the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week and are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer. SHAREMARKET TRANSACTIONS. The annual meeting of the Gear Meat Company was held yesterday. Mr. Strang, chairman of directors, referred to the institution of the chain system last season and mentioned that during the slack season improvements for this method of working had been effected, so that there would be no difficulty in coping with the rush period when it set in. He said a new reserve account was obtained by taking into the assets £35,000, the amount under the Government valuation of the Lambton Quay (Wellington) and Tory Street (Petone) properties, leaving the remaining freehold properties and working plant in the accounts at £57,000, which was £693 2s 9d less than last year. Properties and plant had been carefully maintained, and several alterations to methods had been introduced which helped to reduce the charges. The retiring directors, Messrs. Strang and D. W. Anderson, were re-elected, and the auditors re-appointed. At a special meeting which followed motions relating to the registering of transfer of shares, the qualification of directors, and the duties of the general manager were adopted. WANGANUI WOOL SALE. Tire first Wanganui wool sale of the season is set down for 8 a.m. on January 19. A limit of 30,000 bales for the sale has been determined by the New Zealand Wool Committee, and as this allocation is filled all catalogues are now closed. The second sale will be held on February 23.
