WINOOKA’S AMERICAN TRIP
OPINION OF CONNECTIONS.
HIGH CLASS IN UNITED STATES.

M. Polson, E. Britt and R. T. Naylor, trainer, jockey and manager of the racehorse Winooka, passed through Auckland by the Mariposa to-day on their return ,to Sydney. They declared their intention of going back to the United States, perhaps in February, and to race Winooka there in April and May. They will probably take him to England to race.
Meanwhile Winooka will remain in America. They said he had four wins in seven races and won £2750, and but for the high exchange rate the trip would have been profitable. Naylor emphatically said it was useless to take any but a first class horse to America, where there were some great horses. Equipoise, he said, was “a horse and a half” and the equal of Phar Lap. Naylor also said racing in the States was in a bad way. There was tremendous unemployment and many people were simply unable to pay the admission charge and a free ticket could be had for the asking.
