O'DUFFY'S HOME RAIDED
IRISH POLICE SUSPICION ARMS AND PAPERS SOUGHT OTHER RESIDENCES VISITED NEWRY DEPUTY ARRESTED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Dublin, Nov. 30. Police to-day raided the residences of General O’Duffy, head of the United Ireland Party, Mr. Ernest Blythe, exMinister of Finance, and Mr. Michael Cronin, former Commissioner of Police. They sought documents. They also searched the headquarters of the Farmers’ League, recently merged into the United Ireland Party. In the Dail Mr. P. J. Ruttledge, Minister of Lands, replying to Mr. W. T. Cosgrave, said the raids were carried out because the police had reason to believe that treasonable documents, arms and ammunition might be found. General O’Duffy, interviewed, said: “The police found nothing because I had nothing to hide.” “Newry has a peculiar way of preserving the peace during the elections,” was Mr. Donnelly’s comment on his arrest following a meeting at Newry, supporting Mr. de Valera’s candidature for the South Down seat. Mr. Donnelly, a member of the Dail, was arrested as he entered Ulster in violation of an exclusion order. The police made a baton charge on crowds seeking to release him.
