INGLEWOOD SWIMMING
OPENING OF CLUB’S SEASON. There were not many adults present at the baths when the Inglewood Swimming Club opened the season, but many school children attended. Mr. W. Kivell, president of the club, apologised for the absence of the Mayor, and hoped the first carnival to be held in January would be well patronised. Results are:— Senior girls, 25 yards: Lulu James 1, Ngaire Norcross 2, E. Hodges and E. Barrack dead-heat 3. Girls, diving: E. Barrack 1, N. Norcross 2. Boys, diving: B. Harris 1, S. Faris and L. Jones 2.
Senior boys, 25 yards: First heat: P. Winter 1, A. Rowe 2, P. Grant 3. Stecond heat: B. Lovell 1, S. Faris 2, I. Smith 3. Final: P. Winter 1, A. Rowe 2. Relay race: No. 3 team (M. Wanklyn, E. Barrack, D. Feaver, A. Rowe) 1, No. 4 team (P. Grant, B. Crossan, P. Winter and B. Harris) 2. Five teams competed. Junior boys, 25 yards: T. Orr 1, E. Maetzig 2, P. Norcross 3. Junior girls, 25 yards: F. Crozier 1, B. Crossan 2.
Learners’ race (width of baths): R. Julian 1, L. Paul 2, J. Casey 3. Mr. Kivell was in charge of all events and was assisted by Messrs. B. Codd and M. Lindsay. Certificates of merit for 50 yards, 440 yards, 880 yards and one mile from the Taranaki association were presented by Mr. Kivell. Those gaining certificates for one mile were: Girls, N. Norcross, J. Kaye and M. Wanklyn; boys, B. Harris.
