Several visiting horses were galloped on the course proper at Takapuna this morning, the poles being 30 feet out from the rails. The work was all timed from the discs, not from the; barrier, and in consequence the distance is a little under that mentioned, The going was hard and fast. Boughal and King Mesior, who were associated over five furlongs, ran the first two in 24 3-55., and completed in Im. 1 4-ss. Boughal finished over half a dozen lengths in front. The effort was most impressive. Sinking Fund, who did useful work over a round, looks in solid racing condition. Paganelli beat- Lagoon over half a mile in 47 2-55., Lagoon’s time being 48 2-ss. Paganelli worked very freely and pulled up well. Mungatoon ran five furlongs in Im. 3 2-55., and could have registered faster time. Pelagia was allotted useful work, finishing by running half a mile in 55 2-55., under restraint throughout. Con Fuoco and, Free Air did pace work over a round. They look in good i order. British Columbia, after beginning a trifle slowly, completed, five furlongs in lm 4 l-ss, running the last half-mile in 50 3-ss. After returning to his stall he was lame behind and evidently ricked himself. His prospects of starting tomorrow do not appear good. Puriri Park, who finished his work with a sprint down the straight, hit out ' very . freely. ...... Alloy ran half a mile in 47 4-55., finishing strongly. Master Norval trotted and cantered a couple of rounds. He looks in . great condition. Snow Prince ran half a mile in 55 3-ss. NOMINATIONS CLOSING. TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. Nominations for all events on the programme for the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting close with the secretary, Mr. C. B. Webster, New Plymouth, at 9 p.m. on Monday. Every effort has been made to ensure the success of the gathering. Already entries are coming in from Auckland, and it appears certain that their numbers will exceed those of last year. Taranaki owners and trainers will as usual rally round the club, for if the coming gathering is the success anticipated it will certainly mean . a substantial rise in the stake money next year. Nominations for all events for the Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting at the Awapuni racecourse on December 26, 27 and 29, close with the secretary, Miss M. Buchanan, P.O. Box 52, Palmerston North, at 9 p.m. on Monday.
