OTANGIWAI HOLIDAY SPORTS
PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. Preliminary arrangements for the Boxing Day sports meeting were made at a large meeting of settlers of the Otangiwai Hall on Tuesday, vzhen Mr. Etherington presided. The following committees wore elected: —Secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. B. R. Julian; children's sports, Messrs E. Bishop, W. Sandison and W. Bennett; snorts events, Messrs W. de Malmanche, E. Thomas, W. Ritchie, F. Sowry, D. Scott, C. McDougall and P. McDougall;
chocolate shy, Mr. W. Lyon; nail-driv-ing, Mr. J. Higgie; soft drinks stall, Mr. G. Rhynd; sheep-guessing, Mr. C. Barry; chain-stepping, Mr. R. Etherington. It was decided that Mr- Etherington for the Waikaka School, and Mr. Lyon and Mr. Julian for the Otangiwai School should arrange for the purchase of school prizes. The secretary reported having received two silver cups from the Herbert Smith Trust .for the boy and girl winning most points in the school children’s races.
