OPUNAKE SCHOOL CONCERT
CONVENT PUPILS PERFORM. The Opunake Convent school concert on Tuesday evening attracted a record attendance in the New Theatre. The programme was one of the best staged by school pupils. The management of the concert was professional, no time being wasted. The costumes and appearance of the performers were pretty and smart. The programme reflected credit on the sisters in their tuition and artistic development. The big attraction was the operetta, “Queen of the Seasons.” It was colourful in detail and the solos and choruses delightfully tuneful and excellently rendered. Munro, S. Maycroft, J. Bishop, M. Fevre, L. Walsh, B. Feaver, Tom Feaver, Jack Barrett, Kevin Hickey, V. Dudley, Marie Hickey, Alice Kay, Monica Holmes, M. Fevre, E. Dudley, L. Glengarry, K. Hickey, J. Bishop, .M. Taylor, R. Robson, M. Hickey, J. Kay, D. Hickey. The coronation scene, the representative of the seasons as they come before the queen, the singing of the solo parts and the thanksgiving chorus by the assemblage, with colourful effects, was charming. The other items were a percussion band by junior pupils, the instruments being piano, tambourines, bells, triangles and jingles, and the pupils singing nursery rhymes. The senior pupils opened the second jJart with “Minuet in D” (Beethoven) by the percussion band, and Maureen Keegan danced a tap dance and sailor’s hornpipe and L. and P. Walsh danced an Irish jig. The hoop drill by the senior boys and action song by junior boys were well performed. The other items were: Pianoforte duet, M. Dromgool, S. Brophy, M. Taylor and N. Dudley; trio; fantastic dance, M. Taylor, M. Dromgool, S. Brophy, R. Callendar, N. Dudley, N. Watt; duet (piano), L. Walsh and P. Walsh; song, senior boys; vocal duet, Misses P. Hickey and N. Dudley.
