SHOT FIRED AT BURGLAR

ESCAPE MADE IN DARKNESS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 23. A burglar escaping from the country post office and store at Wiri early this morning had a shot fired at him but escaped in the darkness. The same store has been visited by burglars several times. It is situated 15 miles from Auckland on Great South Road. The proprietor, Mr. R. W. Wilson, was aroused by suspicious sounds. He telephoned two neighbours, one of whom, Mr. J. Lyons, saw a man leaving the door of the store and running down the road. “Stand or I fire,” he called but the man took no heed. He fired a shotgun and all three men chased the burglar down the road, but he eluded them. Little was stolen from the store.
