WHITELEY SUNDAY SCHOOL
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. CHILDREN’S PRIZE-LIST. To celebrate the anniversary of the Whiteley Methodist Sunday School, New Plymouth, additional functions to those held on Sunday were held last night in the Whiteley Hall. Nearly 100 children were entertained at. a high tea,, and afterwards a concert and prize-giving ceremony were held. The superintendent of the Sunday school (Mr. Kirk) reported that 112 were on the Sunday school roll; comprising 32 boys, 38 girls and 42 in the infant department. Attendances had been good, especially during the last six months. The school had a balance in hand, and £5 had been given toward the cost of painting the inside walls of the hall. Three visits had been paid by parties of children to 2YB. The Rev. F. A. Copeland congratulated Mr. Kirk on the able way the school had been conducted. during the year. He said he could speak of the superintendent’s work both as minister and parent, for he had two Children in the school.
The prizes were distributed by Mrs. Copeland, and the list is as follows:— Boys:—Junior Bible class,- Jack Gatland; class 5, Max Burn (382 marks, the highest in the school), Lewis Avery, Leo Jones, Herbert Parkinson; class 4, David Avery; class 3, Don Smart, Graham Pankhurst, Charlie Hart, Bernard Richmond; class 2, Bert Bone, lan Hardy, Gregor Wilkie; class 1, Eric Gatland, Don Cooper, Arthur Harvey. Girls:—Junior Bible class, Mary Richmond, Gwyneth Cooper, Jean Bone; class 6, Margaret Copeland (highest marks for girls). Mary Copeland, Betty Hagen, Joy Stevens, Mabel de Mahnanche, Barbara Gruszning, Joyce McLean; class 5, Lillian Tuffery, Dorothy Riley, Betty Sole, Eunice Cooper, Marjorie Verry; class 4, Beryl Bennett, Nancy Hayton, Muriel Potter, Enid Bottrill, Nola Beere; class 3, Gladys Goldsbury, Merh Julian, Cissie Parkinson, Nola Bellringer; class 2, Gwen Hart, Dorothy Bottrill; class 1, Margaret
Horner, Joan Avery, Hazel Burke, Barbara Nicholson, Valmarie Burrows. Items at the concert were:—Song, Jean Bone; recitation, Don Smart; song, Dorothy Riley; reading, Mr. D. Brown; song, Miss Ramshaw.
