RETALIATION PROPOSED

’ FRENCH SURTAX ON GOODS. ULTIMATUM FROM BRITAIN. * ______ By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 16. The Financial News’ Paris correspondent say that it is reliably reported that the British Government has given notice to France that unless the 15 per cent, exchange surtax on British goods is removed within a month a Customs duty will be imposed on all French goods. The British viewpoint is that the surtax is discriminatory since it is not applied to the United States and is unfair as no surtax was imposed on French goods during the depreciation of the franc.
