BRIXTON SETTLER’S DEATH

FOR LONG RESIDENT OF DISTRICT. The late William Sutton, a highly respected, settler of the Brixton district, who died at the age of 74, was buried in the Waitara cemetery yesterday. The large number of friends who paid their last respects showed the great esteem in which he was held by the district. Mr. Sutton was bom in Devonshire and landed in New Zealand 54 years ago. He went first to Hawke’s Bay and from there to the coast, where he had a large farm near Kai Iwi. He settled at Brixton about 20 years ago. He was the owner of the horse Sweet Simon, whose progeny won numerous races. Mr. Sutton took a keen interest in Farmers’ Union affairs, and his farming ability was well known, he having on several occasions won the pasture competition and taken prizes for ensilage and mangolds. Mr. Sutton leaves a widow, one son and three daughters.
