VARIETY OF ENTERTAINMENT

H. M. COLE’S JUMPING CHAMPION.

W. SANGSTER WINS STEER RIDING.

The ring events yesterday provided some delightful displays. H. M. Cole, Motonui, won the Egmont champion jumping competition with Nifnblefoot and W. Sangster, Stratford, 'annexed the steer-riding trophy. Nimblefoot gave a fine display of jumping. He went round Very fast, flying his jumps and without a flaw in his leaping. Several other placed horses jumped well but there was not the style and dash about their performances. Frisco Jack, J. J. Waller’s good horse which won the open hunting on the first day, crashed into a brush fence, throwing Waller heavily. There was a good deal of interest in the steer riding as all the animals bucked well and a number of the riders did not last more than a couple.. of jumps. There were several good rides and the Ipest performance came from L. Hall, Kaponga, who gave a great display .in riding off for fourth place.

New events on the programme were contests for men of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles and the Ist Battalion. The prize list is:— RING EVENTS. Maiden pony leaping competition: G.
