Sir Harry Lawson has accepted office in the Federal Ministry as an honorary Minister, states a Canberra cable. Mr. J. Ruff was yesterday appointed in a temporary capacity as social welfare officer and fees collector to the Taranaki Hospital Board.
Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. H. E. Holland was expressed by a meeting of relief workets at New Plymouth last night, the gathering standing in silence.
Commander Maxwell Hyslop, R.N., who will relieve Commander R. Ramsbotham, R.N., of H.M.S. Laburnum, and Mrs. Maxwell Hyslop have arrived in Auckland.
The promotion of the Rev. G. H. Gavin, chaplain, third-class, New Zealand Chaplains Department, to be chaplain, second class, is announced in the latest issue of the Gazette. The appointment is to date from December 1, 1932. Flight-Lieutenant Alan Binley, formerly of Blenheim and until recently of the Royal Air Force, who has returned to England from Palestine, has been appointed instructor and aerodrome manager to the Bombay Flying Club, India. A congregational meeting of the Chalmers Presbyterian Church unanimously decided to extend a call to the Rev. E. Llewelyn Williams, 8.A., 155th Street Presbyterian Church, New York, and formerly of London, Brighton and Liverpool, states a Press Association message from Timaru.
The death has occurred after a long illness of Mr. Thomas Gunnion, 0.8. E., aged 70, a former Mayor of Temuka for a period of ten years, states a Press Association message from Timaru. Mr. Gunnion resided in the district 60 years. He played a prominent part in the progress of Temuka.
