RATAPIKO FOOTBALLERS
ENTERTAINMENT BY RESIDENTS. The members of the Ratapiko football team were the guests of the residents on Thursday at a social held to celebrate the team’s winning the Schnieder Shield Rugby competition. The hall was decorated in the club’s colours, green and gold, with large ponga fronds draped at intervals around the walls. A euchre tournament was conducted in the supper room under the control of Mr. J. Lepper. Mrs. Adlam and Mrs. Fetch tied for first place and in the re-play Mrs. Fetch secured the prize. Mr. T. Burkett and Mr. Dombroski re-played for the men’s prize, Mr. Dombroski being the winner. During the supper adjournment Mr. E. Grigg congratulated the team on its fine performance. Of ten matches played nine were won by Ratapiko and one was drawn. Ratapiko scored 128 poipts against 27. The club entered two teams in the Inglewood ten-a-side tournament, the A team winning the medals and the B tram reaching the semi-final. Mr. Grigg called for cheers for the footballers, and “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was heartily sung. Mr. Fred Hill, captain of the team, received an ovation on rising to reply. Mr. Hill thanked the residents for the honour done his team and said he felt sure it was the keenness of their supporters that • had led them on to victory.
Music for the dance was played by Mr. and Mrs. Hall, Mrs. James, .Mr. Gannaway and Mr. Dust. Extras were played by Mr. V. Dravitzki senr. and Mr. N. Karalus. Mr. A. Grigg was master of ceremonies.
