PEOPLE COVET AUSTRALIA PROFESSOR O’CONORY’S VIEW FULL SPEED PREPARATION BOOK USES STRONG TERMS By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. London, Oct. 12. “Japan wants war. She covets Australia. Her idea is first Manchukuo, next China, India, Australia (including New Zealand) and then Russia. It will come sooner than expected.” ’ This declaration is made by Professor Taid O’Conory, formerly of Keio University, in his book, “Menace of Japan.” Dr. O’Conory, who served with the British Army, spent many years in Japan and married into an aristocratic Japanese family. The writer describes the Japanese men as ruthless, lustful and treacherous, and adds: “They will slowly carry on their plans first to subjugate the East unless the Powers step in. Japan is working at top speed towards war and will soon march on China.” NAVAL BASE AT SINGAPORE DENIAL OF WAR PREPARATION. OBLIGATION TO THE EMPIRE. Rec. 7 p.m. Singapore, Oct. 12. “Talk of that kind can be characterised only as nonsense,” declared Captain Euan Wallace, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, when interviewed at Singapore concerning a recent article by Rear-Admiral Inji in a Japanese newspaper alleging that the Singapore base was merely a preparation for war with Japan. “Completion of the work is an obligation of honour to the units of the Empire which contributed large sums of money to its construction,” Captain Wallace said. Captain Wallace to-morrow will inspect the base, which is making excellent progress and will be completed well within the contract time. CONCENTRATION OF TROOPS. RUSSIANS MASSING EASTWARD.
