PROGRESS OF THE SCHEME. ■■ z • • r f “VERY SATISFACTORY STAGE.” A special meeting of the directors of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Company, Limited, was held on Saturday, Mr. A. Harris, M.P., being present by invitation. After the meeting the following statement was issued: — “The directors of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Company, Limited, are now in a position to say that the negotiations for financing the construction of the harbour bridge have reached a very satisfactory stage, and one which should enable finality to be reached in the comparatively near future. “The directors desire to record their warmest thanks to Mr. A. Harris, M.P., for an extremely valuable work he has done toward bringing to fruition this gratifying result. In this connection, Mr. Harris has not spared himself in wholeheartedly—and in a purely voluntary capacity—placing his services at the disposal of the Harbour Bridge Company. To his efforts must the success so far obtained be largely attributed. “At this stage 'the directors cannot make a more detailed statement, but they give the assurance that as soon as it is possible to do so, the public will be taken into their entire confidence.” Prior to his departure for Wellington on Sunday Mr. Harris said that prospects of ultimate success were never brighter than at present. .
