WHITE PUDDLE DUCK. Since this particular little fellow has proved so popular we are repeating the directions. Many of you seem to have lost the last directions we gave you or else Daddy or Mummy set the fire with them! Next week we shall give you 1 particulars of how to knit a sunray cushion,-which will be so nice to make for somebody’s Christmas box! For the duck you will need an ounce of 4-ply white wool, a scrap of yellow, wool for- beak, 2 beads or black wool for eyes and a pair of No. 10 needles. Cast on 21 stitches in white wool, knit 2 rows, then increase into first and last stitch every other row 15 times (51 stitches on needle). Knit 16 rows. Next row knit 2 together each end of needle, knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows 4 times. Now increase 1 stitch, at beginning of row and decrease at end of row by knitting last 2 stitches together; knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows, once (41st on needle). Knit 9, cast off 17, knit remaining 15, and put the 9 stitches on a safety pin. Work on the 15 stitches, knit 2 rows and increase 1 stitch at beginning of row, but knit 2 stitches together at end of row, knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows once.- Next row increase 1 stitch at beginning, middle and end of row. Knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows twice more (24 stitches). Knit .10 rows, then next row knit 2 together at each end of the needle, knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows twice.- Now knit. .2 together at beginning, middle and end of row, knit 1 row, repeat these two-rows twice more. Cast off remaining 9 stitches.

Pick up p tail stitches on safety pin, join oh the wool where cast off stitches of body end. Knit to end of needle, increase 1 stitch in last, stitch. K 1 row and'then knit 2 together and knit to end, increasing 1 stitch in last stitch. Knit 1 row, repeat these 2 rows twice. Next row' cast off 3 stitches , and knit to end. Next how, increase 1 stitch at beginning of row, knit to end, repeat these 2 rows once. Knit 1 row, cast off. Make another. side in the same' way.

Beak, in yellow wool: Cast on 4 stitches, knit 2 rows. Now increase 1 stitch at each end of needle in next row, knit 1 row, repeat these two rows once. Knit 16 rows; cast off. Make another piece in the same way.. Wings: Cast on 4"stitches. Knit 2 rows. Now increase 1 stitch each end of needle every other, row until 12 stitches on needle, knit 4 rows.. Nov/ start to decrease by knitting 2 together at the beginning of every other row, at one end, and every fourth row the other end until 4 stitches are left. Cast off,,.Make another wing the same way. Sew up. Stuff firmly and evenly, sew on pieces for beak and make black eyes, and sew wings into place.
