THE WENDY HUT

TOY-MAKING COMPETITION. THE WINNING ENTRANTS. » ■ ■■ ■ ——. —.—-— Dear links,—We are extremely grateful to those Tinks who entered for this Competition, as our “Sunshine Cupboard will benefit considerably. All the toys are really well-made, and we are glad to see that a few Billy-boys were courageous enough to enter—two, indeed, gaining prizes for good attempts. Prizes have been awarded as follows:— First Prize: Joan and Margaret Hurley, Opaku, Patea. Second Prize: Olive Saywell, Uruti. Third Prize: Eileen Dodunski, Durham Road, Inglewood. Vejy Highly Commended: Ivy Morgan, Eltham; and Margaret Adam, Tirimoana. Highly Commended: Marjorie Borland and Ken Borland, Piakau, Inglewood; Elizabeth Wood and Henry Wood, Durham Road, Inglewood; Bernice Beetham, Opunake; Merle Druce, Tirimoana. The winners of the first prize made two realistic Airedale' . Terriers, “Jinks” and “Toby,” cleverly made from the skin of a black sheep. “Jacko” the monkey, who won second prize, gained points because of his realistic.expression and the expert way in which he was stuffed. You would like the green pussycat which gained third place, and he was very neatly put together. “Percy the Penguin,” and a “Tinker-toy” doll, entirely made from cotton-reels, followed next and then came Marjorie’s and Ken’s golliwogs, with a gaily dressed negromammy and a curly-haired Sambo following very closely. Bernice’s “Cow-boy Jim,” complete with buckskin trousers and a very real lash of flax, and Merle’s “Jack Tar’ were next in order, and will be very affectionately fondled by some little girls on Christmas Day. We wish to thank those of you, too, who have sent other contributions for the “Sunshine Cupboard,” such as skipping ropes and scrap-books. Jt is a great joy to us to know how unselfish*' and how thoughtful for others our Tinks are. The Hut Folk all send their love and so does— Your WENDY.
