DARING FILM OF THE YEAR
BILLED FOR OPERA HOUSE. “STRANGE INTERLUDE.” It would be hard to find a more popular or more capable assemblage of players than is starred in “Strange Interlude.” They are Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Alexander Kirkland, Ralph Morgan, Robert Young, May Robson, Maureen O’Sullivan (of “Tarzan”), H. B. Walthall and the popular juvenile of “Rasputin,” Tad Alexander. “Strange Interlude” as a play made stage history. It had a 16-month continuous run in New York and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize play award for 1928-29. It is unnecessary to mention the players of the picture version — their capabilities are wellknown. The story is a different matter. It involves the tragedy of a woman denied legitimate motherhood because of insanity in her husband’s family. Unwilling to rob her husband and herself of parental happiness she conceives an ultra-modern plan for preserving domestic peace. It involves two other men and she finds herself adored by one man, married to a second and in love with another. It is a daring, ultra-sophisti-cated theme, but there is nothing objectionable in the presentation. Its dramatic qualities are exceptional. “Strange Interlude” will be shown -t the Opera House, New Plymouth, next Saturday and Monday (October 23).
