MEHODIST CHURCH MEETING. AMALGAMATION SUGGESTED. The circuit quarterly meeting of the Kaponga Methodist Church was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Cook on Wednesday, night The Rev. J. R< Nelson presided. Condolence was expressed with tha relatives of the late Rev. P. J. Cossum, a former minister of the circuit, also with Mr. N. C. Davies and his mother in the loss of Mr. Davies’ sister. The meeting expressed sympathy with the wife and family of the late Mr. H. E. Holland. It was desired to record appreciation of the distinguished public service rendered by Mr. Holland, quite apart from politics, and of his high ideals and devotion to them in the public welfare over a long period of years. Ths circuit stewards, Messrs. N. C. Davies and R. G. Cook, were appointed lay representatives to the district synod at Hawera in November. The meeting considered a report of the spring flower show and made complimentary references to the splendid entries received and the success of the show generally. A slightly increased membership was reported. The financial statement showed a small credit balance on the quarter’s working, but the financial position generally was reported to be still in a precarious position, the funded debt being considerable. Encouraging reports were received on young people’s work, particularly the Kaponga and Riverlea Sunday schools. The foreign mission, effort was just about finished and it was expected that the visit of the Maori party would give a fillip to the home mission fund. The chairman stated -that recently a meeting at Eltham between the Kaponga and Eltham ministers and officials considered the affairs of the circuits of both churches and suggested overtures to synod and conference with a view to amalgamation of the two circuits. It was to be understood, however, that the proposed overtures were subject to confirmation by congregational meetings representing each circuit. Personal and General.

Mr. W. A. O’Neill, who has been confined to his home for some weeks as the result of influenza, is now about again. Mr. E. S. Death has returned from a visit to Patea. Mr. Jack Malone, Riverlea, who was recently gored by a bull, has returned home from the Kaponga hospital. He is making steady progress towards recovery. . Mrs. C. H. Brewer is home again after having treatment in the local hospital. The points prize for the St. Mark’s Anglican flag five hundred series was won by Mrs. G. Death, Glen Road, not Mrs. S. Death as previously stated. Mrs. Death and party from Glen Road have been strong supporters of the series during the past winter and her win was very popular.
