NATIONAL GOLF, TITLES

AUCKLAND CONTESTS BEGIN MENZIES RETURNS BEST CARD. SCORES GENERALLY DISAPPOINT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night The annual New Zealand golf championship of 1933 commenced to-day at the Titirangi links. The weather was beautifully fine and warm and the course was in magnificent order. Considering the conditions the scoring on the whole was disappointing. The best card returned was that of B. H. Menzies (Auckland Club), who went out in 36 and returned in 35. Menzies, however, entered in only the amateur contest, not in the open. After Menzies came three cards of 74, these being returned by A. J. Shaw, the present title-holder (unattached professional, Auckland), W. S. Ralph (Auckland) and J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton). Scores, an asterisk (*) denoting professionals, are:— ■ B. H.
