COMBINATION OF SPORTS

DIOMEDE TEAMS TO PLAY. RUGBY, SOCCER AND HOCKEY. An attractive and unusual combination of team sports will be provided at Pukekura Park this afternoon, when teams from H.M.S. Diomede will play New Plymouth combined sides at hockey and Rugby as introductions to the return match for the interprovincial shield between Taranaki and Wanganui Soccer representatives. The hockey will start at 1 p.m., the Rugby at 2 o’clock and the Soccer at 3.30. The matches have been arranged under the auspices of the Taranaki Football Association. The New Plymouth Rugby team is r very strong one, for it includes a number of players who represented Taranaki against Canterbury in the recent match for the Ranfurly Shield. The New Plymouth t hockey team is an experienced combination, having represented the Saturday division against Central and South Taranaki. in the competition for the George and Doughty Cup. The destination of the triangular cup competed for between the Manawatß,, Wanganui and Taranaki Football Associations will depend on the result of the match between. Wanganui and Taranaki. Both provinces have selected clever combinations and a. skilful exhibition of the code is promised. The warship’s band will .play at the' park during the afternoon.
