CONCERT AT WHITELEY
MAORI PARTY ENTERTAINS.
FUNDS FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL. A concert in aid of the Sunday school prize fund of the Maori Methodist Church, Moturoa, was held in Whiteley Hall, New Plymouth; last night, when there was an appreciative audience. The programme was given by the Royal Maori String Band, assisted by other New Plymouth performers. The band provided a varied and enjoyable entertainment of songs, dances and instrumental items, and the other items -were also enthusiastically received. About £2 was taken at the door. The programme was: The band, “They Cut Down the Old Pine Tree,” “Dreamy Hilo,” “Song of the Islands” and “Auld Tang Syne”; songs, “Manurere” and “Poatarau,” the company; hula dance, Miss K. Skipper; string trio. “Marianna ; quartette, “Lazy Mississippi”; song, “Say a Little Prayer,” Miss Butt; duet, Hawaiian Lullaby,” Misses Butt and Skipper; song, "Cuckoo,” Mr. Martin; banjo solo, Mr. H .Skipper; duet, “Right or Wrong,” Messrs. Christensen and Keenan. I'sems were also given by Miss Johnson, pianoforte solo; Mr. Cleland, songs Until” and “Salaam”; Mrs. Brown, recitation, “Taking Willie to . Lunch”; .Miss Thomson, song, “The Voice of Spring ; Mrs. McLeod, song, “To Spring ; Mr. L. Brown, violin solos, “Melody in F (Rubenstein) and “Menuet” (Paderewski). Accompaniments were played by Miss Johnson and Mr. C. Turner. . After the concert Mr. C. E. Bellringer thanked the performers and the audience for their support of a worthy object. Mr. Bamitt also spoke.
