NOTES AND COIN STOLEN
£5O LOST FROM BUTCHER’S CART. WELLINGTON STREET INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Banknotes and coin amounting to approximately £5O were stolen from a butcher’s van in Courtenay Place on Saturday morning. At the time the theft is thought to have been committed there was a man sitting in the cab of the vehicle and there were hundreds of busy shoppers in the vicinity. The van was parked outside the Hygrade Meat Company premises. It is stated the proprietor and another man, prior to leaving for the eastern suburbs, placed a bag and a cashbox containing approximately £5O inside the van and shut the door. The proprietor then returned to his premises for a minute or so, and, having attended to his business, drove off with his companion accompanying him. The loss of the money was not noticed until some time afterward, when it was found the cashbox was empty.
