MAMOS WINS WRESTLING

DEFEAT OF HANK OSWALD. FLYING TACKLES HIS UNDOING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Hank Oswald’s flying tackles won the contest for Harry Mamos when the pair met in the town hall wrestling ring this evening. Up to the sixth round the honours were even, the going having been brisk and interesting. Oswald had taken a fall in the third round with a press following repeated charges, and Mamos had equalised in the fifth with an aeroplane spin and dump. Early in the sixth round Oswald used his favourite tackles but Mamos, unshaken, angled for a loop slam. Twice Oswald escaped his fate by a fraction as he charged in head down. The third time Mamos missed a hold for his slam but picked Oswald up bodily, turned him over in mid-air and dumped him on his shoulders.

WALKER DEFEATS VARGA. BACK LOOP SLAM DECIDES. Auckland, Last Night. A wrestling contest between Count Varga and George Walker ended in the fifth round in. favour of Walker, who pinned his opponent following a back loop slam. This did not appear to be as heavy as the majority applied, but it proved sufficient to keep Varga, on the mat until after two minutes’ interval had expired. As Varga did not rise at the gong Walker was declared the winner. There was loud cheering every time either man indulged in open-handed slapping and ear and hair pulling, and whenever Walker stamped upon his opponent’s bare feet.
