NAVAL SQUADRON’S VISIT

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES NEAR END. GUNNERY EXERCISES TO-MORROW. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The visit •of the Australian naval squadron to Auckland is now drawing to a close. There was a full round of social engagements and sports fixtures to-day, and the programme of entertainments and • inter-squadron • competitions will be concluded to-morrow. On Wednesday the Canberra, the flagship of Rear-Admiral Dalglish, will put to sea followed by the Australia, .and gunnery exercises will be carried out for three days in company with the New Zealand cruisers. On Friday afternoon the Australian warships will sail from Hauraki Gulf for southern ports. An “at home” was given to-day by officers of the Australian squadron aboard the Canberra. During the day a hockey match between the two squadrons was played at the Devonport naval base, and an Association football match between teams representing departments of both squadrons. In the evening inter-squad-ron boxing contests were held. New Zealand won the hockey match by 8 goals to 2.
