NAZI CONGRESS
GERMANS’ OSTENTATION HERR HITLER’S EXHORTATION X . , WAR LAURELS NOT SOUGHT HONOURS IN GREAT WAR NEW UNITY OF THE NATION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Nuremhurg, Sept. 2. Dr. Rosenberg, the Nazi leader who was the centre of disturbances during his recent visit to London, told the Nazi congress that Britons rarely understood the need for discipline because they had personal freedom from anxiety, due to their knowledge of their proven insular independence. On the contrary, Germans were threatened from all sides. Dr. Rosenberg denied that the Jews were persecuted. The Nazis had merely restored elementary justice to the German people, who had cast off the Jewish domination, he said. ■ The ostentatious congress is now nearing its close. Little sleep was obtained last night owing to the enormous fireworks display... A total of 110,000 Storm Troops, unarmed but with full field equipment, marched on the parade ground. Herr Hitler in his speech said: “The world must not interpret the present meeting as any desire on our part to earn new laurels on the battlefield. No. new war can bring Germany more honour than the last. It was more creditable to hold out for 4J years against a greater force than to conquer one enemy with 20 allies. It is unnecessary to reestablish the honour of the nation in battle; honour was never taken from us on the battlefield but on the home soil. We have expunged that dishonour and consequently the present display signifies only a great festive recognition of German unity.” ; ■ z ■ Herr Hitler, describing them as holy and honourable, dedicated 126 new flags of regiments in every part of Germany, touching them with the bloodstained standard of 1923. The Chancellor’s bodyguard of 20 giants in black uniforms with steel helmets was present, while 700,000, including Herr Hofer, the Austrian Nazi who escaped from prison, with whom Herr Hitler shook hands, watched the parade, in great enthusiasm. A Leipzig message states that in spite of the keenest propaganda little foreign business was done at the autumn fair. The North American business, which was formerly good, was practically nil, and there has been a great decline in the business with Britain, Holland, Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries. ‘‘PREPARATIONS FOR WAR” TREMENDOUS EFFORTS MADE. FRENCH NEWSPAPER’S STORY. Strasbourg, Sept. 3. The newspaper Demiers Nouvelles states that Germany is making tremendous efforts to equip for war. The Germans could produce most of their requirements within six months and have the advantage of having no out-of-date war • material. What they may produce will be based on the postwar experience of other countries. This applies particularly to aircraft. Every chemical factory can be converted to make asphyxiating gas, of which sufficient quantities can be produced in three months. Rifles and ammunition can be manufactured sufficient for initial requirements within six months and it would take ten months to produce sufficient heavy artillery. The motorisation of field armies and supply columns has proceeded so far that in four months all war requirements would be available.
