An offering of eight stud Hereford bulls on account of Mr. C. G. Holdsworth brought 20 to 26 guineas. STOCK PRICES AT CARTERTON. Carterton, Sept. 2. Another exceptionally heavy yarding of dairy cattle was offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., at the Carterton sale yesterday, the yard accommodation being taxed to the limit. There was also a large entry of pigs offered, but only a few pens of sheep came forward. There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition for sheep and pigs was keen. It was noticeable with dairy cattle, however, that, as has been the case at all sales this season, buyers showed discrimination, and were only interested in cattle showing quality and close to profit. The best dairy heifers' and cows on drop sold well, and practically a total clearance was effected, although prices for backward or low-conditioned cows and heifers were not very high. Prices were: Sheep: Fat ewes, to 15s 6d; forward ewes, 11s 9d to 13s; store ewes, 5s 4d to 7s. Cattle: Second calvers on drop, £6 12s 6d to £7; heifers on drop, £4 10s, £4 15s, £5 2s 6d, £5 5s to £5 10s; springing heifers, £3, £3 15s to £4; late calvers, £2, £2 ss, £2 10s to £2 15s; heifers just calved, £3 7s 6d; springing cows, £2, £2 10s, £3, £3 15s to £4; fat cows, £2 8s to £3; forward cows, 32s 6d, 355, 37s 6d to £2; store cows, 14s, 16s, 18s 6d, 19s to 21s; empty heifers to 365; yearling heifers, 24s to 255; S.H. bull, £3 10s.
