FAIR, MILD WEATHER

MODERATE NORTHERLY WINDS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Some scattered showers are probable mainly in the west and south but the weather for the most part will be fair to fine still. Temperatures will be mild. A cyclone centred south of the Kermadecs has been influencing the weather for the past few days, reducing the effect of the depressions advancing from the westward, one of which is crossing the South Island to-day. South-westerly winds will still predominate north of Kawhia and Napier. Elsewhere there will be northerlies, though a temporary change to southwest is probable in parts of the South Island also. Their force will be mainly moderate. There will be a considerable swell north of Kaikoura. The sea will be rather rough in Foveaux Strait and smooth to moderate elsewhere. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be moderate south-west to north-west winds and moderate seas.
