TIKORANGI MASQUERADE

FANCY DRESS BALL SUCCESS. PROCEEDS FOR ST. LUKE’S CHURCH The Tikorangi fancy dress masquerade ball on Wednesday night will long be remembered. About 300 people filled the hall, and the spectacle of a tastefully decorated building thronged with dancers in an amazing variety and number of fancy costumes was remarkable. With a multitude of apple green and pink streamers overhead and greenery arranged about the walls, the hall made a splendid setting for the gaiety of the evening. The supper room was decorated with lemon and blue, while masses of Iceland poppies, and spring flowers decked the tables. The whole of the arrangements reflected credit on the ’committees, senior and junior,- and the results justified the great amount , of work. .The senior committee comprised Messrs. H. Foreman, C. Foreman, J. H. Paulger, R. Rolfe, T. Hine and R. Morey, Mesdames H. Foreman, C. Foreman and Paulger, Mesdames Hine, . Garner, Beavan, B. Jury and Hills also assisted. On the junior committee were Misses K. Faull, I. Foreman, D. and J. Paulger, P. and A. Beavan, Mrs. R. Jury, Messrs. A. Foreman, J. Hills and Ron Rolfe. Misses L. Pruden and G. Hills and Messrs. W. W. and B. Thomas (Hawera) were associated with the committees. Mr. F. R. Vickery was master of ceremonies. Music for modern and old-tirne dancing was supplied by Rowe’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss Askell and Messrs. E. Rennells and B. Thomas. Not the least successful feature of the evening was the splendid supper, for which a ladies’ committee was. responsible. During the grand march the costumes were judged by Mrs. D., Blackley, New Plymouth, an extraordinarily, difficult task in view of the number, and the striking originality of many. The prizes were presented by the Rev. H. S. Fussell as follows: Lady, Miss O. Lucas (Owl); man, Mr. E. Beckbessinger (Black Cat) 1, Mr. G. Peterson (Balkan Prince) 2; most original lady, Mrs. R.
