NAPIER HARBOUR
USE OF LOAN MONEY. GOVERNMENT’S APPROVAL. Napier, Aug. 29. According to an intimation received from the Government the proposals of the Napier Harbour Board for the construction of a deep-sea harbour at the breakwater are likely to become a reality at an early date. . ' The chairman of the board, Mr. T. M. Geddis, stated to-day that he' had received advice from the acting-Prime Minister, the. Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, as follows: “It is the intention of the Government to approve of the recommendation of the Local Government Loans Board to grant the necessary, power under the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake Act to enable the board to utilise £71,000 of unexpended loan money for the erection at the breakwater of wharfage accommodation, for dredging and for improving the existing protection. ‘An Order-in-Council to this effect will be issued.”
