This is the first break in the official family of the United States President It was presaged by an undersurface split in the State Department between .Mr. Moley and Mr. Cordell HulL Mr. Moley explained that his resignation was prompted by a desire to return to the work of writing, teaching and politics. Nevertheless well-informed sources assert that irreconcilable differences over policy with Mr. Hull have caused the Mr. Moley is recognised as an adherent of the nationalist doctrine of economie recovery, whereas Mr. Hull believes recovery is possible only through international action. •

This decision follows an alleged threat by Mr. Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, to resign following Professor Moley’s arrival at the Economic Conference at London and interference with the actions of the delegation led by HuU.
