Manufacturers’ Federation, in a memorandum to the Tariff Commission to-day suggested ‘hat the commission invite- a detailed analysis of the actual farming costs to determine by how much protective duties increase ihem. Mr. Mander said that as a searching Investigation ;was being made into the Biahuracturers’ finances and costs .it would be only fair for the commission to call for a similar detailed analysis of costs in respect of a number of representative farms. The commissioners might be greatly misled by unsupported assertions regarding the extent to which the farming costs were actually affected by protective tariff duties.
