PRODUCE OF CANTERBURY
POTATOES LITTLE DEARER. SMALL SUPPLIES GOING NORTH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Business in practically all Canterbury produce lines is exceedingly dull. Potatoes have steadied a little, although there is little change in values that can be quoted. A few days ago they were £4 a ton f.o.b. sacks in, and business was being done at this price. To-day they are about 2s 6d better owing to the very small quantities that have been going north and the assumption that stocks there must be down to a minimum. The Wingatui during the week took 2200 sacks from both ports, and the Waipahi to-day took only, a small quantity. Only about 5000 sacks have gone north in the last fortnight. As against this, however, is the fact that consumption is much reduced and local supplies have spun out longer info the season. Farmers are not overcrowding the market at the moment. Prices have got down to a point which, they consider, has reached bedrock. Quotations to them are £3, and Dakotas are worth from £3 10s to £3 15s on trucks. Fowl feed is unchanged at 3s 5d to 3s 5Ad f.o.b. sacks extra. Oats are in little demand. There is no change in the small seeds market
