TARANAKI POWER BOARD

£7500 LOAN TO BE RAISED. ADDITIONAL LINES TO W ATTAR A. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Electric Power Board was held at Eltham yesterday, there being present Messrs. H. G. Carman (chairman), J. Dobson, R. J. Knuckey, C. E. McGuinness, M. J. Gernhoefer, H. J. Marchant, N. H. Moss and C. Foreman. The engineer, Mr. B. H. Goldsmith, reported that the number of consumers at July 21 was 2213. Units generated during the month totalled 919,000. The largest daily output was 31,400 units on July 22. The maximum demand of 1728 k.w. occurred on July 8. Installations connected were as follows, figures for the corresponding period last year being given in brackets: Milking motors 1 (0), stovers 1 (6), water heaters 3 (2), lighting and heating (new) 3 (3), lighting and heating (add) 14 (15). Work in the lower portions of the Mangaotea cut had been hindered by the heavy rainfall, but the opening of the further section had proceeded. The supply of power was suspended for four hours during the nights of July 6 and 13, to permit of the removal and replacement of one of the main turbine valves, which needed adjustment. Work was proceeding on the alteration of lines necessary for the commencement of supply to Inglewood borough on October I. The bank statement showed receipts since the last meeting totalling £2198 0s 9d and payments totalling £1340 16s 9d. The bank credit was £557 4s. The chairman and engineer were appointed to represent the board at the annual conference of the Electric Power Boards’ Association next month and the chairman and secretary were empowered to draw up any remits thought necessary. The chairman said the board now had no money for advances to assist consumers in making installations, and .he proposed that this work be discontinued. Mr. Marchant said he understood the number now requiring assistance was very small. The chairman sard the

number was practically negligible and it would not cause any hardship to cease operations. A motion on these lines was adopted. The chairman said the board would be faced with additional expenditure in connection with the transmission and reticulation lines to supply Waltara and Inglewood and it would be necessary to raise a loan for the purpose. It was proposed to borrow £7500, which was 10 per cent, additional to the previous £75,000 loan. This could be done without a poll. A resolution to borrow the money, was carried.
