ANNUAL “DAFFODIL DAY”

VICTORIA LEAGUE EFFORT.

ANIMATED SCENES AT STALLS.

Gay with its decking of great masses of spring flowers, the Victoria League rooms at New Plymouth yesterday presented an animated spectacle on the occasion of the annual Daffodil Day. In adidtion to the flowers there were other stalls, all well stocked. On the fancywork stall were'numbers of articles made by members and friends of the league, while the wide variety of articles displayed on the jumble stall caused considerable amusement. Country members and friends had donated apple supplies of produce. Music was. supplied by a radio-gramophone.

The organisation was directed by the president, Mrs. A. C. H. Collins, and the general supervision was in the hands ot Mrs. W. J. Reid. The following ladies were the conveners of the various stalls: Flower stall, Mesdames Blackley and Ewart, and Misses Blackley and George; produce stall, Mesdames Roy and Monaghan (town) and Knight and Hoby (country); fancy stall, Mesdames Thorne and G. List; sweets stall, Mesdames Rutherford, Sheat and Clark; jumble stall, Mesdames Neal and S. F. Burgess; cake stall, Mesdames T. C. List and Morey. Competitions resulted as follow: Ham, Mrs. C. M. Hill; turkey dinner (2), Mrs Roy and Mrs. Monaghan; stools (3), Mrs, Rennick, Mrs. Rutherfurd, Mr. Driver; teacloth, Mrs. Nesbit-Smith; cake, Mrs. T. G. Thomson; tray, Mrs. T. G. Thomson.

Competitions in connection with the sweet stall were won by Mrs. 3. Walker and Mrs. P. C. Davie. Afternoon tea was provided under the supervision of the council and house committee. Visitors were present in large numbers and bought freely from the stalls. A short talk on the activities of the Victoria League in Britain was given by Mrs. Bardsley, who has recently returned from a trip abroad.
