HOCKEY pANCE SUCCESS. The final of the series of fortnightly dances' under the auspices of the combined hockey clubs was held at Kaponga op Tue?day, when there was a large attendance. Music was played by Miss M. Guy (Matapu) and-extras by Mis? Rogers. Messrs. F. Albon, R. Noonan and V. Betts were masters of ceremonies. The various trophies of the club were op exhibitiop. They comprised the Tarapaki chapipidnship shield, Catran Cup, Peebles /Cup. for five-a-side tournament at Eltham, the Winter Cup for seven-a-side at Hawera op June 3, McKenzie Cup wop outright by the club at the Kaponga tournament and the club’s championship' banner upon which seven wins are recorded. Novelty dances during the evening were won by Miss Doris Guy and Mr. John Hey (Monte Carlo), Mr. J. Melville and Miss. I. Melville (statue waltz) and -Miss D. Guy and Mr. S. Pahper (Monte Carlo). The ladies club took the opportunity of making a presentation to Miss Hazel Bradford, a member of the team, who is shortly to bo married. The presentation was made by Mrs. W. Carrington, who referred to Miss Bradford’s long association with the club and her -skill as a playing member. The last but one of the croquet clubs flag fivp hundred afternoons was held ip the Parish Hall on Tuesday, when the prizes were wop by Mesdames Cook, Williams, Evans and Kehely. Hostesses wer« Mesdames N- Gardper 'and Dawson. Mr- and Mrs. R. C. Mellow were host and hostess, at an evening held at their residence, Eltham Road, on Monday evening t<? welcome home Mr. and Mrs. S. Williams. There was a large gathering, including visitors from Rahotu, Manaia and other nearby towns.. The evening was spent mainly in' dancing to music by Mr! J. Hooker and Miss McGregor, and community singing was also enjoyed. ■ . At the last monthly meeting of the Kaponga branch of the Farmers Union the following resolution' was passed regarding the cheese question: “That, tins meeting views with alarm the attitude some members of the Dairy Division are adopting towards the scientists who are endeavouring to raise the q,ual|ty of New ; Zealand cheese.”
