DRAMA LEAGUE FESTIVAL

CENTRAL TARANAKI PLAYS BEGIN. PRESENTATIONS’ HIGH STANDARD. Central Taranaki’s part in the . revival of drama being brought about by the British Drama League took its first tangible public form last evening, when the community festival of the league’s Central Taranaki council began. Five plays ranging from comedy to serious drama were presented last night and will be followed to-night by the remaining three entries and two of the best plays from the recent Hawera festival. Last night’s plays were:— Ebb Tide (Little Theatre Players): Mr. S. Hayton, Miss M. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. B. Bellringer, Mr. H. Von Sturmer, Miss M. Smart, Mr. H. Martin, Mr. W. J. Hall. Ah Evening on Dartmoor (Avon Read-: ing and Dramatic Circle): Misses JBremner and B. Masters, Messrs. D. Benjamin and L. B. Sandford. Me and My Diary (Te Opi I.): Mrs. E. McCullough, • Miss M. Curd, Miss L. Penn, Miss C. Uniacke, Miss R. Furrie, Mr. L. Jardine. The Bride (W.E.A. Reading Circle): Miss H. Thomson, Mrs. Stokes, Miss E. Lamason, Mrs. Milne, Miss T. Campbell, Miss N. Burgess. Rabbits (Te Opi H.): Mrs. E. A. Young, Miss E. Moon, Mr. Sheppard, Mr. W. Foley. To-night “Archibald” (Stratford Girl Guides), “Have You Anything to Declare?” (High School) and “Cupid in the Kitchen” (Inglewood Women’s Institute) will complete the festival, . and “There is So Much Good” (Hawera Savage Club) and “The Dweller in the Darkness” (Hawera Women’s Club) will also be presented. Miss Elizabeth Blake will announce her awards at the conclusion of the festival and the Fredric Cup will then be presented. GENERAL ITEMS. Rongotai Visitors Entertained. Following the Stratford Technical High School-Rongotai College annual Rugby match at Stratford yesterday the visiting boys were entertained at a dance in the parish halt Yesterday _ a party of pupils of the school, including the first fifteen and the hockey elevens, accompanied the Rongotai boys and members of the Stratford Mountain Club on an expedition to Mount Egmont. The visitors will leave this morning on the return to Wellington.

Stratford Station Busy. The end of the schools’ second term yesterday was mainly responsible for the animated appearance of the Stratford railway station yesterday. The mail train had one more car than usual and was well filled, the complement being added to by between 20 and 30 at Stratford. The noon Wanganui train was also well patronised and the mail train north at night carried on the air of brisk business. ELtham Ladies’ Golf.

Owing to the visit of the Inglewood ladies to the Eltham golf links on Wednesday, the match arranged for Tuesday for Mrs. Casey’s trophy has been postponed until further notice. Stratford Soccer Team.

The Stratford soccer team to play Albion at New Plymouth to-day will be chosen from L. and C. Henderson, Gibbs, Korison, Thompson, Jaynes, Butt, Elgar, L. Jones, Blyth, Millar, Williams, Dow, Sandford, Gorringe. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. A free bus will ruq from Stratford to the Eltham Fire Brigade’s annual dance in the Eltham town hall on Monday evening. There will be a programme of modem, old-time and novelty dances. The Women’s Division will hold a plain and fancy dress masked dance at Rawhitiroa hall next Thursday. The success of recent similar dances should be repeated, and a large gathering is expected.
