INFERIOR ENAMELWARE

DANGER OF ANTIMONY POISONING HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S ANALYSIS By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. After the publication of a memorandum issued by the Ministry of Health, London,, drawing attention to the danger of antimony poisoning by the use of enamelled vessels of inferior quality, the Department of Health in conjunction with the Dominion analyst has examined a wide variety of enamelware of different brands on the. market; It has been found that much of this enamelware contains fairly easily soluble antimony compounds. Some .brands, however, including two British, are free from antimony.-

The department considers purchasers of enamelware would be well advised to obtain a guarantee that such goods will introduce no antimony into food or acids contained or prepared in them, particularly fruits or liquids of an acid nature. In other respects' there is no danger whatever from , the use of enamelware for holding and cooking foodstuffs.
