The death has occurred at Lausanne of Mrs. Monroe Love, formerly Marchioness of Conyngham, says a London cable. Sir Percy Loraine has been appointed Ambassador to Turkey, states a London cable.

Canon Grant Cowen, Auckland, formerly of Hawera, who has been ill, is able again'to undertake his duties. Lieutenant R. W. Haddow, D.C.M. (retired list) has been posted to the Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, with seniority from June 5, 1927. Sir James O’Grady, a former Governor of Tasmania, is seriously ill in London, where he has been rushed from the Falkland Islands for special treatment, states a London cable.

The Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association at its quarterly meeting last night expressed its respect for the late Mr. Garrett Wilson, J.P., Stratford, and regret at his death. -Messrs. J. A. Valentine and V. Duff, New Plymouth, were last night elected members of the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association.

The death of Mr. Arthur Anderson Thomson, aged 39, inspector of schools in Fiji, is reported in a cable from Suva. Mr. Thomson was formerly of Dunedin and Nelson College.

The Right Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, arrived at New Plymouth yesterday. He is to return to Hamilton to-morrow after conducting confirmation services at St. Mary’s Church last night and to-night. Sir John Simon, British Foreign Secretary, finished his holiday at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday and left for home in the liner Arlanza. A British Official Wireless message reports that Sir John’s health has been greatly benefited by the change.

Rotarian T. C. List, New Plymouth, governor of Rotary in New Zealand, who has been a delegate to the international Rotary convention at Boston, United States, will arrive at Wellington on Monday next by the Maunganui from Boston. After a two days’ Rotary assembly meeting at Wellington he will return to New Plymouth. Rotarian H. Baily will be the New Plymouth delegate to the assembly.
