DAWSON FALLS ACTIVITIES

MAGNIFICENT VIEW FOR CLIMBERS SKI-ING BY CLUB MEMBERS. A perfect, cloudless day attracted a large number of climbers, ski-ers and sight-seers to Dawson Falls on Sunday. Owing to strong winds and cold nights during the week the snow was too. hard for good ski-running, but the climbing conditions were perfect. A party of Egmont Alpine Club members after searching for soft snow found a gully on the tussock-level and some ski practice was done despite the steepness of the slope. Later they returned to the ski-run and had some fair running on the upper portion, the snow being rather hard. Two parties made the ascent to Fantham’s peak, one under the guidance of Mr. H. N. Murray, Eltham, and the other consisting of Messrs. Harding and Davies, Kaponga. A few people climbed as far as the tussock level and were rewarded with a magnificent view. The climbers found Syme Hut in good order, about six inches of snow being over the ridge. The pole had gone, probably blown down in the recent boisterous weather. Steps had to be cut all the way up, and as both parties started rather late they did not attempt to climb to the summit.
