The stock markets opened quietly today with British funds firmer following the success of the Canadian loan of £15,000,000. ’ The Canadian loan met with immediate success and the subscription lists were closed within one minute of opening. It is assumed that the total was subscribed several times over and the City anticipates that dealings in scrip will open at a premium. Mr. R. B. Bennett, Canadian Prime Minister, who is holidaying at Harrogate, said that the immediate success of the loan was further striking evidence of the solidarity of the Empire. The people of Canada would highly appreciate the confidence shown in their country and its future by British investors. The city editor of the Daily Express says British investors offered £60,000,000.
