• Sir,—My attention has been drawn to a letter in your paper signed “N.Z. Legion,” in which in true Legion style ths writer indulges in a tirade of personal vilification. And it so happens the essence of his effusion and the point which he labours to death has no foundation in fact. He glories in the wording of a letter which was . published over my name, but the joke is on him in that the wording published in the newspaper was not the wording as written by myself. Consequently his hot air becomes light-air and his argument has no value. Intelligent people are never influenced by abuse or vilification, and ‘any intelligent, person reading the Legion’s reply could not but notice a complete absence of even a pretence to deny oi counter my argument I do not doubt that if the Legion replies again to my statements there will be no substance in their statements but merely more abuse. The Legion professes to stand for idealism and purer politics, but impartial people throughout the Dominion cannot help noticing that .only too often their only reply to their critics is the basest of political weapons—personalities. I do not intend to reply in similar strain, for it is the aim of the Labour Party, to prove to the Tories that politics can be as clean and as free from personalities as any other walk of life.
