FARM COMPETITIONS

HAY AND ENSILAGE AT TARATA. MR, J. SMITH’S HAY LEADING. The judging of the hay and ensilage competitions in tire' Tarata district was carried out yesterday by Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Department of Agriculture. The quality of both hay and ensilage showed a decided improvement on that of last year. In the hay _clsss Mr. J. Smith’s stack is leading for the North Taranaki championship. There was a good, following of farmers during the judging and the party was entertainer at lunch by Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Goodwin and Mr. and Mrs. H. Lovell. Details are as follow: — STACK ENSILAGE.

In the evening Mr. Smith gave a lecture at Tarata on pasture management. There was a good attendance.
