TESTING OF BOWLS
■ RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERROR. ATTITUDE OF ASSOCIATION. Following a recent report as to errors alleged to have been made in testing and alterihg bowls in order to make them conform with the rules, the matter was discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association. Mr. H. A. Mayer (Wellington) asked if a tester made a serious mistake in testing bowls, who would be responsible.? Messrs. Gladding, Gordon, Falconer and Stone thought the tester was responsible for his own mistake.
The following motion was agreed to: —“ln the event of any person for any purpose requiring a tester to alter his bowl or bowls, or in the event of his being required to alter such bowl or bowls, to comply with the laws of the game, no responsibility for any damage to such bowls will be accepted by any centre or the association.” It was further agreed that any tester altering bowls for players residing in another tester’s district must promptly send full particulars of such alterations to the secretary of the centre in which the bowler resides, who will advise the local tester. A resolution was carried that the bowls of players shall be tested before the commencement of a final game. In connection with tire conditions of play, it was decided to recommend to the executive that if a player’s bowls failed to pass the test prior to the commencement of the final games, he should be supplied with approved bowls to be used in the final.
