PROHIBITION ORDERS BROKEN. MISCELLANEOUS POLICE CASES. The fourth breach of his prohibition order cost H. E. White 10s, costs only, in the Hawera Court yesterday, Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., accepting his explanation as to why he entered a hotel. Mr. R. J. O‘Dea, who pleaded guilty for White, said his client 1 had gone into the hotel to use a telephone and had had no liquor. On his previous appearance White had given an undertaking not to take liquor and had kept to his word. Entering a hotel during the currency of his prohibition order cost A. E. Thomas £1 and costs 10s, and J. E. Patchell was fined similar amounts for procuring liquor during the currency of his prohibition order. C. A. Mortlock, the driver of a delivery van, was fined £2 (costs 10s), for a breach of the right-hand traffic rule. W. N. Buist was ordered to pay costs 10s as the result of delay in procuring his motor driving license. HAWERA COURT SITTING. UNDEFENDED CIVIL ACTIONS. Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Hawera Court yesterday gave judgment by default in the following civil actions: William Matangi v. M. Tapp, *£ll (costs £2 16s); Farmers’ Co-op. v. T. McCarty, £l6 8s 8d (costs £3 6s); Hodder and Tolley Ltd. v. W. N. Ordish, £9 5s 8d (£1 10s 8s); same v. H. Muldrock, £2B Is 8d (£4 10s 6d); F. J. Boase v. R. Wilton, 8s 9d (8s); C. Hunger v. J. E.. Taylor, £lO 9s (£2 16s); Smith and Trim Ltd. V. K. Couchman, £5 (£1 5s 6d). On a judgment summons A. H. Hills was-ordered, to pay Neville Phillips Ltd. £ll 9s 2d (£1 Is) in default 11 days’ imprisonment. FRASER ROAD. NOTES. MEETING HOUSE FUNDS AIDED. A Maori meeting house is to be built on Fraser Road, and in aid of the funds a euchre and dance party was held in the Fraser Road hall on Monday night. There was a good attendance, and an enjoyable time was spent. The ladies’ prizes were won by Mrs. T, B. Galbraith and Mrs. Radford, the latter after a re-play with Mrs. Marokopa, Messrs. J. Pohi and Mr. Radford junr. won the men’s prizes. Consolation prizes went to Miss I. Campbell and Mr. S. Peni. Mr. P. Rangi won a competition, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Minhinnick won a Monte Carlo waltz. Thanks to those who had supported the function were expressed in Maori and English by Mr. D. Broughton. Music for dancing was played by the Taiporohenui Maori Dance Band, and supper was served. Mr. J. Pullen was master of ceremonies. The inside appearance of the factory has been improved and. brightened with a coat of paint, and the factory is running every third day. The Fraser Road school football team defeated' Ararata on Saturday at Fraser Road by 17 points to■ 15. Both teams showed good form, a close contest resulting. . e . LOSS TO PATEA GOLF CLUB. PRESIDENT FAREWELLS PLAYERS. After play at the Whenuakura links yesterday the president of the Patea Ladies’ Golf Club referred to the impending departure of two popular members, Mrs. W. E. Donald and Mrs. M. Crawford. On behalf of the club Mi’s. C. R. Honeyfield wished 'both players success and happiness in their new sphere and asked each to accept a token of the esteem in which they were held by their fellow players. Mrs. Donald will leave shortly for Omata and Mrs. Crawford for Hamilton. There are still a number of cards to be submitted to complete the eclectic competition, which will terminate on Sunday. A team of 12 players from Te Ngutu will play a ladies’ team at Patea next Thursday. PRIMARY SCHOOLS RUGBY. SELECTION OF PATEA TEAM. After a trial game in the Patea Domain on Wednesday' the following team was selected to represent the Patea district in a match against Hawera town schools as a curtain-raiser to the Hawera-Patea senior match on Saturday. The team represents each school in the Patea district’s territory: Davies (Alton), Wilkins (Waverley), Walker (Kohi), Richards (Patea), Prout (Waverley), J. Wilson (Opaku), Reid (Patea), Smart (Manutahi), Hamerten. (Patea), T. Hurley (Hurleyville), L. Oliver (Kohi), J. Oliver (Kohi), Booker (Whenuakura), 0. Oliver (Kohi), Penny (Manutahi). Emergencies: Perkins (Waverley), Hills (Patea Convent), Muggeridge (Manutahi). FRASER ROAD NOTES. FUNDS FOR MEETING HOUSE. A euchre party to raise funds for the Maori meeting house which is being erected at Fraser Road was held in the hall on Monday evening, and was very well attended. The prizewinners were: Ladies, Mrs. Galbraith 1, Mrs. Radford 2, consolation Miss I. Campbell; men, Mr. Pohi 1, Mr. Radford 2, consolation Mr. S. Penney. Mr. P. Rangi was the winner of a case of apples. After supper dapcing to music supplied by the Taiporhehui Maori Orchestra was carried on, Mr. J. Pullen being master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr. and Mrs. J. Minhinnick. OPERA HOUSE, HAWERA. “FLESH” COMMENCES TO-DAY. \ — Three players who distinguished themselves in “Grand Hotel” appear together again in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer drama of the wrestling ring, “Flesh,” which will be screened at the Hawera Opera House to-day, to-night and to-morrow night. They are Wallace Beery, the star, Jean Hersholt and Greta Meyer. Beery has the role of a German wrestling waiter who becomes a world’s champion. Directed by John Ford from an original story by Edmund Goulding, the cast supporting Beery also includes Karen Morley, Ricardo Cortez, John Miljan, Vince Barnett, Herman Bing, Edward Brophy, and the former world’s wrestling champion, Wladak Zbyszko. I Jack Hulbert in “Love on Wheels” will appear on Saturday. ’ '
